The program at this school is an Associate in Medical Assisting (AAS degree). Students on course completion will be adept entry-level certified MAs across the three domains of cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior). They will also be ready to sit for the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam. There are specific general education requirements from all students enrolled in the program, such as written communication module, oral communication, mathematical ways of knowing like Statistical Reasoning, Finite Math, Calculus and more, and behavioral methods of understanding.

The program has 2 years of sequential study. In the first-year fall semester, students are to earn 15 credits and 16 credits in the spring semester. The second year’s fall semester has 16 credits, and spring covers 14 credits. Valuable courses on business computer systems and patient record systems are incorporated in the program to enable you completely. The total credits to earn are 61.

The MA program offered by CEI is an AAS degree. There are two segments to the course. The first one involves completing all prerequisite class requirements. Post this, you can apply for the professional MA program. You will take 2 full-time semesters for the prerequisite completion. The professional program will take another 2 full-time semesters, and the clinical experience shall take place in summer. Thus, the total duration is 4 semesters plus summer (2 years).

CEI’s MA program is one of the lowest-cost options in Idaho, which gives it quite an edge. As a student enrolled in this program, you will get an opportunity to practice for 6 weeks in a clinical setting. The certification exam passage rate for the 2017 CEI MA pass-outs was an impressive 90.91%. Over the past 5 years, CEI graduates have started in the industry with wages averaging from $21,632 to $33,280 a year. The retention rate was 100% for the 2017 cohort, and the job placement rate for the 2018 cohort was 91.67%.

Intermediate Technical Certificate (47 credits to complete) and Associate of Applied Science in medical assisting (60-62 credits to earn) are offered at North Idaho. Both programs are spread over 4 semesters. You can look to apply in fall 2021, applications for which are scheduled to open in late March 2021. The deadline for priority admissions will be at the end of May 2021. If places are still available, the program will accept more applications until the final date of July (beginning) 2021.

Even after the technical certificate, you would be eligible to take the national certification exam. However, all students are advised to pursue their studies further for the AAS degree. Teaching format includes a suitable combination of online sessions, on-campus lab practice, and diverse learning based on real-world interactive experiences with the surrounding community.

A high school diploma or GED is mandatory. Students have to achieve a grade C or better, or at least 2.0 in each of the specific prerequisite courses to the program (such as Human Bio and Technical Math). Students also have to essentially document a 35 wpm keyboarding skill.

The school offers an AAS medical assistant degree and an Intermediate Technical Certificate (ITC). The minimum credit hours required for the certificate program are 45-46 and 60-61 for the associate. The associate has 2 semesters of classes (spring and fall) in year 1 and year 2 each. For the certification, the first year has the spring and fall semester of classes and then another spring semester classes in the next year.

The program at Idaho State University admits students in January. Acceptance is competitive as there is room for only 18 students annually. Classroom hours are not fixed and differ with semesters. You can opt for the MA AAS (2 years) degree here. To get admitted, aspirants have to achieve the minimum 360 in English and 500 in Math on SAT scores.

In the ACT, the minimum targets are 14 and 19 for English and Math, respectively. If you’re taking the AccuPlacer, 232 on English is required. Students looking to study further can pursue a Bachelor of Applied Science or Bachelor of Science in Health Science (4 years).

The total credits required for the MA major is 40-44.

At Idaho, the Carrington offers an MA certificate of achievement while also preparing students for the National Healthcareer Association Clinical Medical Assistant Certificate (CCMA) exam. The certificate program usually takes 9 months to graduate. Those who want to pursue an associate’s further can complete the degree in a total of 16 months.
