Training without Certification

MAs in California do not require any certification or licensure. However, they are expected to complete a formal training administered in any of the following two ways:

  • In an accredited private postsecondary school, a community college program, as described in the Education Code, or a secondary or post-secondary program conducted by the DOE (the U.S. Department of Education) recognized public school.
  • Under the supervision of a qualified medical assistant, physical assistant, Licensed Vocational Nurses, Registered Nurses, licensed podiatrist, or physician.
